>I appreciate the list of book shops...Anonymous

>I appreciate the list of book shops you compiled.

Thanks. You are the first person who has contacted me via my list of "Perth and suburbs secondhand booksellers" about my Creation/Evolution/Design pages.

>Please explain to me though, what motivates creationist/intelligent design believers to discount evolution

It depends on what you mean by the very flexible word "evolution." Contrary to Darwinist and media stereotypes, all creationists/IDists I have ever met, in person and on the Internet (and I debated on a number of leading creation/evolution/design forums against all-comers from 1993-2005), accept "evolution" in the sense of biological change over time, and "micro-evolution" in the sense of change within or at the species level.

The only "evolution" that all creationists/IDists must "discount" is that which asserts: "but God had no part in this process":

"... perhaps we should not be surprised at the results of a 2001 Gallup poll confirming that 45 percent of Americans believe `God created human beings pretty much in their present form at one time within the last 10,000 years or so'; 37 percent prefer a blended belief that `human beings have developed over millions of years from less advanced forms of life, but God guided this process'; and a paltry 12 percent accept the standard scientific theory that `human beings have developed over millions of years from less advanced forms of life, but God had no part in this process.'" (Shermer, M.B., "The Gradual Illumination of the Mind," Scientific American, February 2002. My emphasis).

But due to the takeover of science by Naturalistic Philosophy (i.e. the claim that "nature is all there is" = there is no supernatural), this has become "the standard scientific theory" definition of "evolution."

>... or the work of various physicists and mathematicians as they find more and more ways to link the various forces of the universe together in testable hypothesis?

This question is based on a false premise. Indeed, a major branch of Creation/ID theory is based on "the work of various physicists and mathematicians," namely the Fine-Tuning of the Universe argument for design.

The majority of Creationist/IDists do not "discount ... the work of various physicists and mathematicians." Only Young Earth Creationists would "discount" those aspects of physics (not mathematics) that point to the Earth and Universe being billions of years old. But Old Earth Creationists have no problem with "the work of ... physicists and mathematicians" per se.

>There must be an ulterior motive, as you obviously aren't stupid.

The only "ulterior motive" is not ulterior but open and upfront. As stated above, Creationists/IDists are only opposed to "evolution" that claims: "God had no part in this process," which is not science but Naturalistic philosophy.

You appear to be the victim of Darwinist and media stereotypical misinformation, that creationists/IDists are all opposed to "evolution" and "science" when we are only all opposed to Naturalistic Philosophy masquerading as science.

Stephen E.
